For many of you, this might seem silly as your coaches are your close friends, part of your social circle, or maybe even family. But for others, this can be an awkward and even intimidating thing to do. First off, one thing to remember is that in general, and especially here at Crossfit Terminus, Crossfit coaches love what they do. At our gym we have a growing issue of coaches sleeping with married other coaches, and one male coach in particular pursuing just about every female member married or not who enters the gym. We also have a female married coach who has repeatedly made poor choices at gym social functions trying to kiss male members, fondling, etc when alcohol is involved.
While we are not interested in policing people’s personal lives, the behaviors of these coaches is becoming problematic. When i was younger I really wanted to open a gym. That passion grew even stronger when I finally found CrossFit. I love working with people and helping them improve. Seeing people improve not only physically but mentally and spiritually as well. I have always enjoyed fitness, working out, and being healthy overall. I played sports growing up, but once I was out of sports, I was somewhat lost in gyms on what to do that kept me motivated and was also fun.
Then I began dating a CrossFit gym owner, so naturally, I just had to try it out…although it took me a few months to gather up the nerve! But when I finally tried it, I was hooked! I love how each work out is challenging and no two days are alike. CrossFit has changed my life. There will always be some debate in the fitness community regarding training on an empty stomach. This mainly affects anyone who needs to get to the gym early in the morning. I completely understand that eating a full breakfast before a 6am workout can be difficult, if not impossible. Even if you prepare food ahead of time you will have to allow ample time for digestion as well as getting to the gym for your training session. Training on an empty stomach or not can also affect someone taking the evening classes as well.
This may lead to you being in a partially fasted state which can negatively impact your ability to perform your best in the gym. A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that individuals who skipped breakfast had diminished insulin sensitivity as well as increased LDL cholesterol . Insulin sensitivity is important for proper nutrient uptake and long-term health as severely impaired insulin sensitivity can result in insulin resistance which is a risk factor for coronary artery disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes.
One group consumed protein only before their training sessions and the other group consumed an equivalent amount of only carbohydrates, the protein only group had significantly higher resting energy expenditures 24 hours after their training session. Research also suggests that pre-workout protein intake can be even more effective for recovery than a post-workout protein shake alone. Put simply, having a proper pre-workout meal can help increase your strength, improve recovery, as well as boost the amount of calories you burn at rest for up to a day after training which can help lower body fat and improve your body composition.
